Grandmas Golden Syrup Dumplings with a Citrus Twist

Don’t you just love it when you find one of those old recipes that really trigger great memories of your childhood? This recipe is one of them. Delicious Golden Syrup Dumplings made just like your grandmother used to make. There is simply nothing like it!

We have added a delightful citrus twist to the syrup to add a little zing and really give you that winter warm feeling inside. This recipe is sure to be a hit in your house as much as it is in ours!

Dumplings

the ingredients

150g (1 cup) self-raising flour
60g unsalted butter, fine cubed
1 egg
1-2tbs milk
thick cream, to serve

the fun

  • Sift flour into a bowl then rub in butter until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs
  • Beat egg with a little milk and pour into flour mixture
  • Combine to form dough, and then divide into small balls

Syrup

the ingredients

30g butter
220g (1 cup) caster sugar
4tbl golden syrup
1 small lemon, juiced
1 tspn Gourmet Garden Ginger
1/2 tspn of Gourmet Garden Lemon Grass

the fun

  • Combine the ingredients together with 1 cup of water in the Sauté Pan and bring to the boil over a medium heat
  • Carefully add the dough balls to the syrup and boil for 20 mins
  • Serve with syrup and cream

tips

  • For richer syrup add 1 tbspn brown sugar
  • You can also add a little dark rum for a heart-warming buzz
